In January 2002 Stephanie & I travelled to Oahu, Hawaii, to run the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team (HURT) 100 mile.  Conditions on race day were brutal -- frequent rain made for very slippery, muddy trails. A few days after the race, when the weather had improved, we returned to the Nu'uanu section of the course for a little outing.

Nu'uanu Creek
Roots & rocks!
Enchanted forest of Norfolk Pines
This is fun, but not after 90 miles!
Welcome to Middle Earth
Ascending to the narrow
ridge at Nu'uanu
The ridge is only 6-10 feet wide and drops precipitously on either side.
Up top the banyon roots were horrendous!
