The landscape of the southern altiplano is amazing! The entire area is above 13,000 feet, and sometimes you are driving over 15,000 feet. Great for acclimating to altitude. We took time to climb a couple of trekking peaks, Volcan Licancabur (19,550 feet), which straddles the Bolivia/Chile border, and Volcan Uturuncu (19,750 feet), the highest peak in the area.

A long drive through very desolate country in the very remote southwestern corner of Bolivia brought us to Tupiza, a lovely little town surrounded by some wonderful landscape. Here we finished our tour and stayed for a couple of days hiking, washing, doing laundry and eating.
